MHB Training Dates – RSVP now

Thank you again for volunteering to be part of very cool project, Mapping Historic Ballard. We’ve added volunteers since the kick-off. No worries, we all start our training together. Please join us for one of the scheduled training sessions! You only need to attend one (they will be identical), but this will be an opportunity for volunteers to learn how to get this project moving! As you know, success of this project hinges on volunteer participation, and we appreciate your involvement!

Please attend one of the two scheduled trainings:

January 24th, 1-4 p.m. Ballard Branch Library

or

January 27th, 6-9 p.m. Seattle Creative Arts Center,  2601 NW Market Street

To review, there are three general “categories” of volunteers: historic building evaluation, GIS, or General Support.  The training will cover what to look for doing the surveys, how to identify and classify structures, the potential and limits of the application that has been developed for mobile devices. Since preparation for the street survey and its results will then roll into further research and data entry, the training, while necessary for anyone who wants to be on a street team, will be useful for all. Only one mobile device per teams of two will be needed, so don’t be scared off. The actual street surveys will take place in February.

Please include whether you have a mobile device on which you can download an app. (Some of you have already let me know, please confirm along with information on device, Apple or Android). The times have wiggled a bit since last announced, so please double-check your calendar.

We know you have lots of questions and that’s why we can’t wait to start answering them. The consultants and GIS volunteers have been prepping materials, testing the application, setting up survey grids, mapping “Ballard Iconic” spots. After we’ve logged your RSVP by Wednesday, January 13th there will be a follow-up email with a reminder with what to bring to training, and what to expect.
